The encounter of Japan and Germany in a single glass.

SAKE WINE – the first wine in the world made with Japanese sake yeast.
Born from a special collaborative project between Japan and Germany.

Created by Hideomi Kitagawa and Johannes Teutsch , SAKE WINE represents a completely new style of wine that has never existed before.

It is neither sake nor a conventional wine — but a unique creation with refined and distinctive flavors. Grapes are carefully hand-harvested and selected, with yields limited to under 2,000 liters per hectare, making it a truly rare wine for special occasions.

The label is adorned with musical notes, expressing the taste of wine visually, much like music expressed in art. Just as a melody resonates in the glass, SAKE WINE adds harmony and elegance to any conversation.

In 2022, SAKE WINE was selected to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Narita–Frankfurt route of Japan Airlines and was served in the First-Class Lounges in Frankfurt and Tokyo-Narita, recognized as a wine of international distinction.

The Story Behind the Label

Our labels are decorated with musical notes. Inspired by artists such as Kandinsky and Klee, who sought to express music through painting, we wanted the label itself to give a small impression of the wine’s flavor.

As aromas and flavors unfold in the glass like a melody, SAKE WINE becomes a unique encounter of art and taste.

SAKE Blanc de Noir Hefe7 Trocken  2021
*The wine label is inspired by César Franck – Violin Sonata in A major (Violin Part)

For this Blanc de Noir, Pinot Noir grapes are used.
While the previous vintage — which sold out immediately — was fermented with Yeast No. 9, this year we are using the rare Yeast No. 7, also known as Nagano Masumi yeast.

It lends the wine fresh citrus aromas such as grapefruit and lemon, making it exceptionally fruity.
Even during laboratory tastings, it was noted that this Blanc de Noir is anything but typical for Pinot Noir — or, how should one put it? It is simply a completely new world of taste.

For this Blanc de Noir, the very same Pinot Noir grapes harvested on the same day were divided into two tanks:
one fermented with sake yeast, the other with a traditional German wine yeast.

The result is two wines from the same grape variety and vineyard, yet with entirely different personalities.
A fascinating illustration of how yeast alone can open up a completely new world of taste.
